Rointe Welcomes NICEIC/ECA's 2021 Vision

The Future of the Electrical Contracting Industry

2021 Vision

Rointe Digital Heating - a growing force in the UK electrical heating sector - has expressed strong support for 2021 Vision: The Future of the Electrical Contracting Industry, the NICEIC and ECA document which outlines the associations' vision of its own position 10 years from now.

Emma McCarthy, CEO of the NICEIC and Steve Bratt, CEO of the ECA decided to jointly fund 2021 Vision in order to provide some guidance for their members at a time when many contractors are trying to recover from the recession and are concentrating on short term survival. 2021 Vision enables the electrical contractor to see past the short term and prepare for the next development stage.

The research is based on a survey of one thousand NICEIC/ECA members, and it found that there are several perceived threats to the industry, but also many opportunities.

As the UK government and public strives to achieve ambitious targets for carbon reduction, the electrical industry finds itself in a strong position to take advantage of the opportunities that the drive for carbon reduction brings. As a result of this sea-change in technology and demand, those contractors who are willing to develop and learn new skills will grow and thrive.

Rointe's Low Consumption Digital Heating System fits very nicely into the high-tech, low consumption vision which government, the public and the private sector are all adopting.

Rointe's Claudio Harillo expressed support for 2021 Vision and the message it sends. "The 2021 Vision document is absolutely correct in underlining both the need to embrace new technologies and the opportunities for electrical professionals which these technologies will bring. Rointe's products fit perfectly with renewable energy  installations, for example, and the new Rointe Club for installers is providing training and support for electrical professionals of all sizes to grow as our market grows in the UK."

Rointe Digital System, the future of heating

Article published in Cabletalk magazine, July of 2011

Cabletalk Magazine

Rointe’s Research & Development Department points out the evolution of the Heating market and need of the creation of a classification of all heating systems.

Committed to the environment
Currently energy is one of the most debated and discussed subjects in all areas of society but actually the concept of energy is not as much debated as the way it is used.

The planet’s natural resources are limited and the policies of the governments of every country are focussed on decreasing energy consumption, or more precisely the optimal use; what has been called Energy Efficiency.

Households have total access to electric energy which is today the easiest and most convenient way of doing the daily tasks.

In Rointe we are concerned about the environment, and our products are made with the purpose of giving as much comfort as possible to our customers, while taking care of the natural resources, optimizing as much as possible the energy consumption.

Working for an energy efficiency classification for electric heating systems
Each electric product does not harness the power in the same way so countries develop laws to guide the consumer in the purchase or acquisition of electrical products ranked by how they make optimal use of the energy.

In the case of electric heating there is currently a gap in the classification of the products due to the multitude of types and way of naming them. The consumer can therefore make a mistake when choosing a product.

Rointe works and actively participates in the development of an objective and standardized electric heating systems classification. But until this regulation is achieved, we have developed a series of parameters and procedures in order to serve as a reference to both professionals and end users.

Green homes in 2016
Emissions of greenhouse gases, particularly carbon dioxide, are the main cause of climate change. The UK emitted more than 550 million tonnes of carbon dioxide (MtCO2) in 2005. Energy use in buildings accounted for nearly half these emissions, and more than a quarter came from the energy we use to heat, light and run our homes.

Therefore, the UK government proposes to achieve a zero carbon goal in three steps: moving first, in 2010 to a 25 per cent improvement in the energy/carbon performance set in building regulations; then second, in 2013 to a 44 per cent improvement; the finally in 2016, to zero carbon. This means that, over a year, the net carbon emissions from all energy use in the home would be zero1.

The code for sustainable homes uses a 1 to 6 star rating system to communicate the overall sustainability performance of a new home. A home assessed as a 6 star will have achieved the highest sustainability rating.

Evolution of the Heating Market
With regards to heating, the market values: ecology, efficiency, security and economy, but inexplicably they carry on installing out dated heating systems, such as installations of boilers with pipes or storage heaters. Systems that ultimately lead to high costs and are energy inefficient.

European legislation is evolving towards heating systems that progressively improve energy/carbon performance, so, the Rointe Digital System offers a great alternative for those who are looking for an electrical heating system, and also opens a huge new business opportunity for the professional electric sector in the UK.

SURVIVAL OF THE FITTEST

Installing a K Series radiator, step by step

Interview to Mike Sopher about the Rointe Digital System

In the February issue of PE we featured a new electric heating unit from Rointe which promised rapid installation. To establish if this was the case we installed some units in a flat in Hitchin.

There are a number of electrical heating products on the market and virtually every electrician will have put it some warm air heaters or storage heaters in their time. But in the last few months some new products have hit our shores that promise dramatically increased efficiency without sacrificing on heat output.

We featured one such system earlier in the year, the Rointe K series – a Spanish import that works by Natural Air Convection. As the air rises, it passes through the radiators specially designed fins and is heated up before circulating around the room. The manufacturers claim that because of the design and materials used in its construction the radiator achieves energy savings of around 60%.These claims are backed up with an independent evaluation from BSRIA (the Building Services Research and Information Association). That all sounds great but if it's a pig to fit it'll never catch on.With this in mind we bombed up to Hitchin in our Renault Kangoo to fit it as part of the refurbishment of a flat that was previously heated by a few old panel heaters.

WARMING TO THE HEATING MARKET

Interview in Professional Electrician with Mike Sopher, Rointe's Regional Sales Manager

Interview to Mike Sopher about the Rointe Digital System

PROFESSIONAL ELECTRICIAN (PE): Why do you think the UK is now ready for electric heating?

Mike Sopher (MS): For many years the UK market has been dominated by gas central heating systems because consumers consider them to be controllable, affordable with the UK having a limitless supply of gas. This is fast becoming a myth. Gas prices are increasing, supply is from abroad, and electric systems can now be fully controllable. Electricity has always been considered by some an expensive fuel for heating, but with the introduction of Low Energy Consumption Electric Central Heating, the UK has a digital electric radiator system that is cost effective, energy efficient and fully controllable. Electricity is now a completely viable alternative to wet systems.

PE: How is your K-Series electric radiator different from other solutions available?

MS: The Rointe K Series electric radiator works on a system of Natural Air Convection, (without fans) which is the most effective way for heat to be unified in the space volume. This avoids hot and cold areas within a room achieving a perfect comfort throughout. The components that are used within the manufacturing process are crucial to the success of the radiator. The aluminium quality and the thermal oil efficiency along with the radiator design  allows for the highest levels of calorific performance. [...]
